Chapter VI. Exploration (to conquer – know thy enemy first)

{To conquer cancer we should know its behaviour exactly. Way back in time, the entire malaria control program in India, was based on the observation that a mosquito sits on a wall after feeding on human blood. The other behaviour of the insect is to seek for a stagnant puddle of water nearby to breed.}

When we came across a flowing river I was surprised, being the first exposure to such an existence. It contained a whitish fluid flowing in one direction. {This is the lymphatic channel. After detaching from the main body of cancer, the cell infiltrates around and encounters the lymphatic channel through which it travels to the lymph nodes}. I took it as an opportunity to explore the same instead of skirting around it. I also thought that our travel would be easier in the flow of the river.

Chapter V: The Access

An Autobiography of a Cancer Cell

Chapter V: The Access

 {Access to travel and communication has been the fundamental characteristic for the growth of civilizations. One can see in this chapter a few similarities between the spread of cancer and how humans have colonized.}

Well, here I was, well settled, bustling with energy looking forward to a life of happiness forever and that was when the premonition of tragedy struck me.  Insidiously, I found something was happening. By now, my family had grown to such a large extent that even I had difficulty in knowing its size. The first thing I noticed was that our living space was getting cramped. We had not planned our growth, (more…)

Chapter IV. The Expansion

Chapter IV. The Expansion

One of the most exciting things in life is growth and expansion. Despite being born with disadvantages it is thrilling when one makes progress in life. Every day is worth looking forward to when one has that gut feeling that life is going to be successful finally. Every day is a rosy day when slowly but inexorably one can put down the enemies. I basked in the sunshine of my new found strength and relished every day of my existence. (more…)

Chapter III: The creatures who followed rules

 An Autobiography of a Cancer Cell

Chapter III. The creatures who followed rules

{Creatures who followed rules: Author was debating within him about the appropriate name for this chapter. Whether to name the chapter as “Persons who followed rules” or “Creatures who/that followed rules”? Finally, author decided on the latter, because there usually is an element of contempt or association of impracticality in the society towards the people who follow rules. Probably, those who follow rules are considered as people without sense of “adventure”. Perhaps there lies an ingredient of excitement in violating rules. Routinely, it might help in saving time and energy by circumventing rules. Because of this element of disdain prevalent in the society, the nomenclature, “creatures,” seems appropriate.}

One aspect of life that amazed me immensely was the creatures around me who followed rules {These could be the perspectives (more…)

Chapter 1 -The Purpose- the realization

  • Post category:I Am Life
  • Reading time:3 min(s) read

Chapter I: The Purpose – the realization Purpose gives confidence. Purpose channelizes energy. It is the ultimate goal for life. Life develops a sense of direction, without which it is a rudderless ship. Not surprising therefore that I searched for my purpose in the deepest corners of my mind for a protracted length…

Chapter II: Being before the big bang – the flux

Chapter II. Being before the big bang – the flux

I have these persistent premonitions from my past life. Sometimes I could sense them very intensely. One emotion that was the most predominant, as far back as I could remember was this feeling of weakness. Others around were not like me, who grew with apparent robust health. However, I was given to understand that, there were others like me elsewhere, in far off places, beyond the reach of my comprehension. (more…)

Prologue

I am a cancer cell and this is my simple story and that of my family. Simple because, as cancer cells we have a simple philosophy of just increasing in number, going places without a care for anything. No doubt, for me, my birth, growth and travels are adventure par-excellence. However, I never realized that our actions, also speaking for the rest of my group, were just an inexorable pathway to our own utter destruction. Now I understand that I was born in an organ of a human. It took me an absolute crisis to understand the realities of life and decided to take steps in moderating my group’s and my actions.

The other objective of my story is to convey the lessons that I have learnt to the humans. I know that there are similarities at least in some actions in ours and theirs. There is a dire need to wake up in time. Also, justifiably I state that, the very genesis of me is due to the negligence on the part of humans.

Finally, my reflections do not stop just at that. I would like to put forth my views regarding the purpose of life based on my experience and making the best of it and also have a glimpse at the future.

Chapter I. The Big Bang – out of irritation

{ A similarity can be drawn as to how our universe and a living being came into existence vis-à-vis production of a cancer cell. All are the outcome of a process reaching a critical point}

Looking back, it all happened suddenly. It was like a sudden flash of lighting; a big bang. It was the culmination of head on collision of matter in a flux. It was the result of thing reaching a flash point. It was the outcome of an inevitable thing waiting to happen; inevitability of mathematical probability going beyond chance. At the most, it could have got deferred for some time {A cancer cell is produced when a carcinogen hits the normal cell during a critical point. A carcinogen is an irritant which is responsible for creation of a cancer cell from a normal cell in a human body}
